Women going through peri/menopause may consider taking a Bone Density Test to assess changes in bone density and body composition. During this stage, decline in oestrogen levels can increase osteoporosis risk, a condition characterized by weakened bones. Women with additional risk factors, such as early menopause, prolonged corticosteroid use, low body weight, or a history of fragility fractures, may consider earlier screening. This test helps evaluate bone density and provides crucial information for developing strategies to maintain or improve bone health.
As women age, especially after menopause, they become more susceptible to bone health issues such as osteoporosis. Common symptoms of bone health issues include back pain, loss of height over time, a stooped posture, and fragility fractures. Women going through menopause will also experience a drop in their oestrogen levels, which can further impact their bone health.

Frequently Asked Questions
Taking a Body Density Test during menopause/perimenopause is important because it helps assess changes in body composition that commonly occur during this stage. Hormonal shifts during menopause can lead to a decrease in estrogen levels, which can contribute to a loss of bone density and an increase in body fat. A Body Density Test provides valuable information about these changes, allowing for early detection and intervention. By understanding changes in body composition, women can take proactive measures to manage bone health, prevent osteoporosis, and maintain a healthy weight during this transitional phase.
