Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a common sexually transmitted infection caused by a group of more than 150 viruses. Most people with HPV don’t develop any symptoms and their immune system will clear the virus on its own. However, in some cases, the virus can persist and lead to abnormal cell changes that may develop into cancer over time.

HPV is a sexually transmitted infection that can cause changes to the cells in the cervix, which is the lower part of the uterus that connects to the vagina. When HPV infects these cells, it can cause them to become abnormal and potentially cancerous over time if left untreated. It’s important to note that not all types of HPV cause cancer.

The HPV vaccine works by triggering the body’s immune system to produce antibodies that can fight off the virus. The vaccine we offer protects against the following HPV subtypes: 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52, 58 which includes the two most common types that cause cervical cancer (HPV types 16 and 18).

Like all vaccines, the HPV vaccine can cause side effects, but most are mild and temporary. Common side effects of the HPV vaccine include pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site, headache, fatigue, and nausea. These side effects usually last only a few days and go away on their own without any treatment.

The HPV vaccine that we offer, provides protection against nine types of HPV (6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52, 58) which includes the two most common types that cause cervical cancer (HPV types 16 and 18).
Yes, it is still recommended that women receive HPV testing even if they have received the HPV vaccine. While the vaccine can protect against certain high-risk strains of HPV, it does not protect against all strains that can cause cancer.
It may not be suitable for those who are sensitive to yeast or any of the vaccine components or have a moderate or severe acute infectious illness. It’s best to consult a doctor in these cases and follow their advice accordingly.
Current evidence shows sustained protection against vaccine-targeted HPV-related diseases in long-term follow-up studies for the HPV vaccines. There is currently no recommendation for additional doses or booster shots.
